iOS hacker Nadeem Ateyeh released iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS bundles to help you save your Baseband from upgrading while updating to iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool. This bundle pack would also help you enjoy Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 running on iPhone 3GS. iPhone 3GS Unlockers on Baseband 5.13.04, I am sure are already planning on updating to iOS 4.2.1 and enjoy the Untethered solution.
There are a few limitation though, like you can not activate your device if you are not on AT&T. So carefully follow the steps you might end up in the emergency call screen. If you don’t have the AT&T original SIM do not try this or if you can find an AT&T SIM with a friend or family, just to activate your device that would be great because then after the activation you can Unlock your iPhone 3GS using Ultrasn0w and return the AT&T SIM.
[ Step 2 ]
Once you have the PwnageTool and iPhone 3GS bundles with you, right click on the PwnageTool application icon and select show Package content and Browse to Contents > Resources > Firmware Bundles > drop the iOS 4.2.1 bundle for iPhone 3GS.
[ Step 3 ]
Choose expert mode and choose iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 icon and continue. Pwnagetool will ask you to provide the iOS 4.2.1 Stock file you download in step 1.
[ Step 4 ]
After the iOS 4.2.1 file recognition choose general and on the next screen uncheck “Activate the phone”. This bundle supports legit activation only…
[ Step 5 ]
On next screen hit the “Build” button and PwnageTool will create the custom iOS 4.2.1 firmware file for you, Save it on your desktop or somewhere you can remember.
[ Step 6 ]
Once you have the custom iOS 4.2.1 file ready PwnageTool will help you put your iPhone 3GS in DFU mode.
[ Step 7 ]
Once you are successfully in DFU mode head over to iTunes and hit Restore button while holding the option key (Option + Restore). iTunes will ask your for the iOS 4.2.1 file, locate your file you just create with the PwnageTool and hit OK. Now this is where most make the mistake, always give iTunes the custom file not the Stock iOS 4.2.1 file. You should know the difference and you should be very careful.
[ Step 8 ]
After a successful restore you should be able to see your iPhone 3GS homescreen. This tutorial ends here and you can continue with the tutorial to use Ultrasn0w and Unlock your iPhone 3GS.
