Upgrading Baseband Of iPhone 4 and Preserving Your Unlock
- Hits: 958
Sn0wbreeze is just one tool that will allow you to preserve your baseband and Pwnage Tool is another. Pwnage Tool is designed for use with Mac computers only. It has a Baseband Preservation Mode that will allow you to preserve it while you restore to a custom firmware for the iPhone.
There are procedures you will need to follow in order to create the custom iPSW file and avoid accidently updating the baseband of your jailbroken device. The iPhone Dev Team has updated the unlock software, Ultrasn0w, for a baseband unlock. It works a little different from previous versions so if you are used to working with Ultrasn0w you read the tutorials to be sure you know how to use the updated version.
Proceed by downloading either Snowbreeze or PwnageTool. Check for any iTunes updates and install those prior to proceeding. If you do have to update iTunes re-start your computer.
Connect your iPhone to iTunes and back it up and sync it. When this has completed launch the jailbreak software selecting “expert mode”. Next you will need to “browse” for the IPSW and click on the blue arrow and a popup window will allow you to point to where you downloaded the software from the previous step.
Once you have picked the firmware you need to click on “yes” to continue. When presented with options choose “general”, the blue arrow and “continue”. From here you can either activate your phone or not. You should opt “activate” if you are unlocking your iPhone.
Next you will go to the Settings page of Cydia. Find the Download Packages tab and click on it. From here you will be able to pre-install al your jailbroken apps by clicking on “add to queue”.
